18 rows ·  · These Regulations commence on the day after they are registered. 3 Road transport Registered: 05 Jul This Regulation may be cited as the Heavy Vehicle (Fatigue Management) National Regulation. 2 Commencement This Regulation commences in a participating jurisdiction on the day on which Chapter 6 of the Law commences in that jurisdiction. Note— In this Regulation, a reference to ‘the Law’ is a reference to the Heavy Vehicle National Law. In addition to the general duty to not drive a fatigue-regulated heavy vehicle on a road while fatigued, drivers must comply with certain maximum work and minimum rest limits. Parties in the supply chain have to take all reasonable steps to prevent the drivers from exceeding these limits. This is similar to occupational health and safety laws and means that drivers must be allowed .


National heavy vehicle driver fatigue laws apply to fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles, which are: a vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of over 12t a combination when the total of the GVM is over 12t buses with a GVM over t fitted to carry more than 12 adults (including the driver) a truck, or. (b) between 12 midnight and 6am (or the equivalent hours in the time zone of the driver’s base if the driver is on a journey in a fatigue-regulated heavy vehicle). The HVNL consists of the Heavy Vehicle National Law * and five sets of regulations.
